Sport Selections Term 4, 2023
Years 7 and 8
At SCAS, we offer a range of competitive and recreational sports and activities to cater for students' interests and abilities.
Years 7 and 8 students are involved in a weekly sports program, which takes place on Mondays from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Sports choices include off-site activities held at various locations and on-site activities held on campus.
Term 4 Aquatics and APOLA accreditation (Surf Survival)

In Term 4, Year 7 students will participate in a compulsory aquatics program during elective sport time.
Students in Years 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to attempt to pass APOLA competency in Week 2 at a local pool. Those who pass the APOLA competency can advance to complete an APOLA surf survival accreditation.
Year 7 students who do not pass will remain in our aquatics program at a local pool. More advanced swimmers will participate in squad skills sessions run by the Head Coach of Port Macquarie SC, Billy Nicholson. Learn-to-swim will also be catered for at a local pool.
Year 8 students who do not pass APOLA competency will join their second-choice sport group.
Year 7 Aquatics Program
Cost: $30 (includes both squad skills and learn-to-swim)
Year 7/8* APOLA Surf Survival Program
Cost: $60
*Year 8 students should select this as their first preference if interested in trying to pass APOLA competency and taking the full accreditation.
Year 8 Sport Options
Cricket
Cost: Nil
Cricket games and skills on-site at SCAS.
Mountain Biking (capped at 20 students)
Cost: Nil (unless loaning a SCAS bike for $50)
Riding along the Googik Track and Wayne Richards.
Beach Volleyball/Vortex Football
Cost: $36
Volleyball and vortex football games at Port Macquarie's local beaches.
Surfing/Bodyboarding
Cost: $36
APOLA-accredited students who are experienced surfers will travel to local beaches under the supervision of SCAS teachers.
Yoga and Cardio Gym on-site (capped at 20 students)
Cost: $50
60 minutes of yoga with a qualified instructor (Stacy Hall from Serenity Space Yoga) followed by 30 minutes in the SCAS gym.
Rowing (capped at 12 students)
Cost: $152
Learn to row activities under the guidance of a Level 2 coach at Port Macquarie Rowing Club.
Learn to Surf
Cost: $155
Surfing lessons for beginners provided by Port Macquarie Surf School at Flynns Beach.
Iona Peak/ITAP Dance
